Do I still need favicon.ico?
It is not essential for every modern browser, but it remains a useful compatibility fallback and is inexpensive to include.
Why generate both regular and maskable 512 px icons?
A regular icon preserves the intended full composition. A maskable icon adds safe padding for platforms that crop icons into different shapes.
Can I use a rectangular source image?
Yes. The generator fits it inside a square canvas without distortion. A square source with generous margins usually gives the best result.
